Arts Day at local elementary school Apr 27

UPDATED INFO BELOW: Kristin Baxter is arranging for Moravian art department volunteers for Arts Day.   If you would be able to help, even for part of the day, please email Kristin at kbaxter@moravian.edu.  It’s a good experience for networking and looks great on the resume – and is a wonderful way to finish up your last day of classes for Spring!

From Kristin: Hi everyone,

I am looking for a few volunteers to help me teach an art lesson for children in elementary school at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Bethlehem, on Friday, April 27, 2012, during their “Arts Day” event.  We will plan an “Artists’ Trading Card” lesson for this day. Artist Trading Cards are small works of art, created on cards the size of typical trading cards that kids are familiar with. We can plan a theme of the designs of the cards, and we can use paints or collage items, for instance. (The theme for some of the other art activities that day is “Harlem Renaissance” so we could relate to that theme, or not.)

Children (and adults) love this project, and I usually have children create more than one, so that they keep one and trade one with a friend.

• The day runs from 9:55 am – 2:30 pm (Artists arrive 8:30 – 9:15 am for setting up) • Artists set up in one classroom – students come to Artists for 40-minute sessions.

• Artists usually lead 4 to 5 sessions during the day • Classes range in size from 20-30 students • Materials are provided by the school • A delicious lunch is provided by parents and local restaurants

Thomas Jefferson is located at 404 E. North St. (at the corner of Maple St.) in Bethlehem. The office phone number is 610-691-1776.

Let me know if you are interested in helping! Thanks a lot!

Best, Kristin
